Results from 2-20-2010

There was a good turn out of cars in our class. 11 cars made the Main Event. They ran 2 heat races. We Started 5th in the First Heat. Starting position is determined by drawing a numbered poker chip when you sign in. Justin drew number 97. If he keeps up pulling big numbers like that somebody else is going to have to draw for him.

Track was a bit slick for our Heat Race. It was the very first race for the night on the full track. That combined with our Tire pressure being set too high (time for a new gauge) we just went with the flow and had a good clean race.

We started 5th in the main event. We worked our way up to 3rd fighting hard for 2nd. First, Second and Third were bumper to bumper going into turn 4. Justin cut to the inside to go around 2nd place at the same time 2nd place cut to the inside to go around 1st place. Not enough track to pull this off and Justin ended up spinning out. After the Yellow flag came out, Justin lined up for the restart. As the Green flag came out he stepped on the gas and suddenly the car had no power. He was able to coast in to the infield.

After sitting there for a few laps with the engine off he tried to start the car again and just get it off the track. As he started to go he found that the car had normal power. He then just went high on the track, so not to get in the leaders way, and was going to run the last few laps and hope for better points. At some point along the way contact was made with another car (no need for names, they know who they are) and we ended up with a front end that is about 4 inches more to the right than when we started the night. One set of the bumper bolts were snapped and a tire was cut. This is what we know of so far. We have not looked at everything yet.

We think the original problem is with the Fuel pump trying to fail. It just wasn’t able to deliver enough fuel on the restart. We hope to confirm that soon se we can get a new one before the next race.

So another fun season of racing begins!
